Chrysotile asbestos consists of alternating layers of magnesia and silica arranged in a tubular geometry. The active DMA components sequentially attack these layers until the chrysotile chemical structure is destroyed. As the magnesia and silica layers are separated during this chemical process, nes inert, non-fibrous minerals are formed.
Fire testing at Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL) has been completed with fireproofing which was applied to beams, columns and fluted decks and treated with DMA digestion agent. As a result of these tests, DMA-treated fireproofing material retained the fire rating of the originally tested asbestos-containing fireproofing material.
